healthy indoor air for everyone

We supported the FPS Public Health in their efforts to achieve healthy indoor air in all public places in Belgium. Through targeted communication, we translated legislation into concrete actions and recommendations.
Client: FPS Public Health
Sector: Federal government
Location: Belgium
Year: 2023 - 2025
the question

Indoor air quality in Belgium is generally poor. This has an impact on our health. To protect citizens and improve overall indoor air quality, the government introduced a new law in 2022.

The law encourages operators of enclosed public spaces to measure indoor air quality. A valuable but complex challenge, especially since it involves technical measures and a particularly large number of target groups.

from technical measures to clear action
With a tailored strategy and action plans, the FPS Public Health regained a clear overview. We defined who needed to be informed, when, and through which channels and actions. Operators received well-presented and easy-to-understand communication to help them take the right measures.
our impact
To introduce the project to all operators involved, we developed a clear communication strategy. We also provided a clearer picture of the target groups and the ways to engage them.
communication strategy
A comprehensive communication strategy tailored to the different target groups, based on a thorough analysis of the project. The strategy also took into account the political complexity of the assignment.
stakeholder management
A first step in stakeholder management, mapping the target groups and setting the right priorities to ensure a well-considered communication methodology for each of them.
project communication
Operational support and strategic advice on the roll-out of communication, including press releases, social media posts and news items, to communicate clearly and accessibly with the various target groups. This was done in both French and Dutch.
content creation
Design of communication materials for operators of public places, and the roll-out of a series of practical guides explaining the legislation on indoor air quality in an accessible way, in the national languages.
project management
Close monitoring of all content linked to the publication of the different Royal Decrees, and coordination of communication from the Indoor Air Quality Unit.
