redefining the communications department with proactive social media

How can a government service ensure its communication is relevant today, while remaining robust for tomorrow and resilient in times of crisis? That question kept the communications department at the FPS Social Security awake at night.
Client: FPS Social Security
Sector: Federal government
Location: Brussels
Year: 2020 - 2021
the question

The FPS Social Security connects policy, citizens and social actors around social protection and inclusion, with an important role in crisis policy. The COVID-crisis made this even clearer.
The federal public service realised that its communication at the time was not agile enough to respond to rapid developments and crisis situations. In addition, the communications department lacked a clear structure, resulting in unclear roles and responsibilities.

from ad hoc communications to targeted messages that truly work
We restored calm and clarity through a strategic redefinition of the communications department. We also developed a (crisis) communications strategy and a clear approach to social media, helping the FPS move forward with confidence.
our impact
Today, the FPS Social Security communicates purposefully, is better equipped to deal with unexpected circumstances and has reinvented itself as a government service on social media. This was achieved thanks to:
communication strategy
Development of an overarching strategy for external communication, including a crisis communication plan and an operational playbook. This was also translated into a social media approach focused on the strategic use of content per channel, followed by hands-on social media training with the communications department.
stakeholder management
Development of the organisational structure of the communications department by redefining various tasks, roles and profiles. With a focus on the department’s mission and vision, as well as its objectives, target audiences and tools.
positioning
Creating a recognisable identity and strategically establishing a distinctive position. Strategic advice for a recognisable employer positioning, whilst taking into account the unique characteristics of both the FPS Social Security and handicap.brussels.
