expert pool participation and communication for the Environment Department
Increasing green spaces while reducing the amount of hard surfaces is one of the ambitions of the Environment Department. To support local authorities in their plans, the department set up a pool of experts, where we joined as experts in communication and participation.

the question
In response to the challenge of drought, the Environment Department launched several pilot projects with local authorities looking to reduce hard surfaces in their municipalities. The expert pool was available to these pilot projects for all questions and advice relating to depaving.
In this role, we advised local authorities on their participation processes, messaging and how to deal with voices of protest. We also brought this advice together in a full participation guide for climate adaptation projects.

However, our role as experts broadened throughout the process to include other projects such as facilitating the department’s seminars and workshops, developing a communication process for contractors, and helping to disseminate the results of the Green Deal Climate-Resilient Environment.

While the Green Deal for a Climate-Resilient Environment is still in full swing, our advice and deliverables have already enabled many authorities to move forward with their depaving projects in a targeted manner.
participation
An advisory role and support with ad hoc questions from local authorities, as well as the development of a participation guide for climate adaptation projects for all local authorities.
graphic design
The design of a participation guide in the visual identity of Environment Department and in the distinctive style of previous graphic materials within the same theme, with attention to (digital) accessibility and accessibility for people with visual impairments.
project management
The organisation and coordination of various side projects, the moderation of workshops with different project leads within Environment Department, and participation in several coordination meetings with the other experts in the pool.
