more forests in Flanders with

‘De Bosalliantie’

Case-De-Bosalliantie.png

In 2019, the Flemish Government opted to plant more forests, close to Flemish citizens and accessible to everyone. Four Flemish entities joined forces, in an alliance called ’De Bosalliantie‘, to realise 4,000 hectares of new forest by 2024. For this ambitious goal, we provided strategic communication advice, targeted guidance and hands-on implementation of the strategy.

the question

aangeplant 2.jpeg

The Flemish Government aimed to plant 4,000 additional hectares of forest by 2024. This ambition required cooperation at various levels. Four entities of the Flemish Government joined the initiative: the Agency for Nature and Forests, the Flemish Land Agency, the Environment Department and the Research Institute for Nature and Forest. They started a strategic partnership with nature organisations and local authorities (municipalities, provinces and intermunicipal organisations).

At the same time, a targeted communication approach was needed to reach and convince key target groups such as local authorities, associations, businesses and individuals to plant forests.

strong results driven by robust project management

We played a crucial role in establishing the ‘Meer Bos’ programme, developing communication strategies and guiding the various communication initiatives.

our impact

Together, we set a record for forest expansion, with 1,899 hectares realised. Adding to that, another 925 hectares of land is to be reforested. These impressive results were achieved thanks to:

communication strategy

Development of a tailored communication strategy, aimed at the different target groups and updated annually. Translation into an annual plan built around three pillars: (internal) stakeholder communication, target group communication and public campaigns.

stakeholder management

Guidance of stakeholder processes with the various partners. Establishment of the ‘Meer Bos’ programme, set-up of internal communication tools and engagement of partners through new initiatives and events.

project management

Establishing the ‘Meer Bos’ programme, formalisation of ambitions in a charter, and follow-up and coordination of the different partners during regular consultation moments.

pr & press events

Organisation of events such as the annual Boscongres, press events and workshops. Additionally, the presentation of forest labels to local authorities, helping to increase press coverage in local media.

project communication

Operational support and strategic advice on the roll-out of communication tools (newsletters, presentation of forest labels, webinars, etc.). Concept and development of a white paper as a testament to the past legislature, with recommendations for the next one.

content creation

Development of various communication products, such as internal and external newsletters, webinars, brochures, content for the website (bosteller.be), personalised letters, email campaigns, training programmes, and more.
